One issue I found with hiking boots was that they never had anything preventing the laces from coming undone. If there's one thing you never want while hiking is for your laces to get snagged and send you tumbling into the brush.
My solution was sewing a strap onto the top of the boot that would cover the tied laces to prevent them from coming loose and becoming a hazard. The strap would secure in the back with two buckles and be adjustable to fit all calf sizes.
The boot is also made out of a water resistant leather and has a shock resistant rubber sole with a stitched seam to prevent wearing out and water leaking into the boot.
